Life and Childhood
Dakota Meyer was born on June 26, 1988 and grew up in Colombia, Kentucky. Sergeant Meyer enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2006, and graduated from basic training at Parris Island Recruitment Training Depot later that year.
A school trained sniper and highly skilled marine infantryman, he was deployed twice to combat duty. In 2007, he deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom, and during 2009-2010, he deployed to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom.
Sgt. Meyer is a highly decorated Marine combat veteran. His awards include:
